Tigers Basketball Continues to See Conference Success

EVANSTON – The Rock Springs Tigers continue to pace the race for the 4A West title as they defeated Evanston on the road Friday night, 48-45.

It went down to the end as the Red Devils gave Rock Springs everything they could handle. The Tigers led for the majority of the game and jumped up by nine at points in the third quarter. Heading into the fourth, Rock Springs had a seven-point lead.

The Red Devils came out strong and cut the lead down to four quickly, 34-30. A three-point play by Demetrius Davenport and an active Trevor Hautala would keep the Tigers in the lead.

Carter Rosette found Davenport for two and Kelby Kramer added free throws as Rock Springs extended the lead to eight, 45-37. Evanston came charging back and, with 40 seconds left, a three-pointer had them back within two, 45-43.

Evanston fouled with 23 seconds left and Davenport hit two at the line to put Rock Springs back up four. The Devils scored a quick two and fouled again. Jared Rodriguez hit one of two to put Rock Springs up three. On the ensuing play, Evanston lined up for three and the Tigers were called for the foul. With six seconds left, Evanston had three free throws that could have tied the game.

They missed all three and quickly fouled. The Tigers missed both free throws, giving the Red Devils one final chance. They were not able to convert as the Tigers continued their strong conference play.

Davenport finished with 18 while Carter Rosette had nine. Kramer ended the night with seven points and four rebounds for Rock Springs.

Lady Tigers

The third quarter would be the difference as the Rock Springs Lady Tigers dropped to Evanston, 47-37.

The two teams entered the locker room at the half all knotted up at 20. Evanston out-scored Rock Springs 27-17 in the second half to take the win. A three-point play by Stevie Hill with about five minutes left in the game gave the ladies a little life late but Evanston held on.

Hill finished with nine points while Makenzie Kroupa also had a strong game offensively. Sister Lyndzie Kroupa finished with eight rebounds on the night.

Rock Springs will be back in action on Saturday as they hit the road for a battle in Riverton. Both the Lady Tigers and Tigers won in the first meeting between the two teams.
