Dr. Merritt also evaluates children with snoring and notes that loud snoring and disrupted or fragmented sleep can lead to behavioral problems and poor school performance in children. “Although our criteria for performing tonsillectomies in children have become more stringent, children with sleep apnea that fail to respond to non-surgical treatments and who have large obstructing tonsils often respond well to surgery.”
