Wolves grapplers wrap up regular season with win over Tigers; Regionals start Feb. 20 in Rock Springs

GREEN RIVER – With the season ending tournaments just around the corner, the Rock Springs Tigers traveled west on Interstate 80 Wednesday night for a dual in Green River. The Wolves made senior night that much better as they took a 66-16 win.

The Tigers have had an up and down season this year while the Wolves are among the top three teams in the state. The outcome looked bleak for the Tigers before they even started as Green River took a 36-0 lead before a wrestler stepped on the mat. Kole Case, Blake Waite, Brendan Hopkins, Jordan tucker, Gabe Bunderman and Caleb Nathan all won by forfeit.

Hunter Hanks and John Nowland opened the dual and Hunter was able to get a win by pin at the 2:54 mark. The 113 division was next a pitted Tiger Danny Macy against Daniel Mondragon. Last time on the mat, Macy led the team with the highest finish at the Ron Thon. Macy was able to get the fall in the first 30 second of the match.

After being named Outstanding Wrestler in the Small Weight Classes at the Ron Thon, Cole Verner remained undefeated with a win over Wyatt Martinez. At 126, Tiger Patrick Debaun was able to beat Cameron Harmon for Rock Springs’ second win of the dual.

At 132, Kaycee Cochrane scored a fall at the 3:48 mark against Tiger Wyatt Yenny. Ira Dickinson stepped up at 139 as he gave the Tigers their third and final win of the night as he scored a major decision win over Eric Clingenpeel, 14-2. Shandon Welsh and Austin Waters finished the dual as they both scored falls to end it.

 

Junior Varsity

The Rock Springs Tigers were able to beat the Wolves in JV action, 12-3. There were only three matches. TJ McNeil won by fall for Rock Springs at 145 and Sean Zediker also scored a fall at the 3:01 mark for the 182 division win. In the third match, Green River’s Zack Orr was able to beat Joe Walker in a close match, 4-1.
